Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award winning Civilization series. Beyond Earth, while bearing many attributes of a brand new game, is based in Civilization 5’s engine and mechanics. Transhumanistic ascension options (affinities) from the previous should remain as well as cites on water. I dont think that the devs, no matter how hard they try, would be able to convince people that it isnt SMAC 2, and that will always work against them; that's part of why BE didn't do so well.
They'll also never escape the endless "It's not as good as the last one" whinging that got old ages ago.
I do want to see a remake of Alpha Centauri, with the factions from that game reintroduced in an updated graphics engine.
